This cantata stands out as one of the most famous and masterful solo cantatas for bass, with an extraordinary beauty that is emphasized by a prominent oboe solo throughout the piece. It expresses the feeling of saying goodbye to the trials of this world and the journey to the sweet realm of death – eternal rest – through the redemption of Christ.
